Having open conversations about the existence and prevalence of mental health issues is necessary work towards breaking down dangerous stigmas around mental health. As a therapist, mental health awareness is of great importance to me. The severity of the stigmas around mental health and emotionality has interested me in my clinical work, particularly with women.
May Time, is Me Time.
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 9th. May is also International Mental Health Awareness Month. This month Über Moms will be discussing the topic, “Your Mind. Your Health”. As a part of our mission to encourage mothers to live a healthy and active life for themselves and their families, we have created a 30 day fitness challenge. We’re thrilled to announce our health and fitness challenge for the month of May. It will be like many of our other challenges, but with a twist, each team receives points for active movement as well as self-care.

Take Out the Papers and the Trash, or You Don't Get No Spendung Cash: A Note from the Editor
“Look, Mommy, there’s another mask, and another one! Look how many masks there are on the ground! Why don’t people throw their masks in the garbage?” My six-year-old mutters as we walk towards the river for our daily exploration time. I gave the kids an assignment to count all the masks they see littering our way to the river. A task that they have taken quite seriously. They are concerned and (unsurprisingly competitively) excited to see who can count the most masks.
Racing responsibly: Leave Only Virtual Footprints; Lower Your Carbon One
It´s been a while and I’m sure we are sure all dreaming of the return to races. The bibs, the preparation, the pre-race nerves: oh, how wonderful! But what one might also remember is the less than wonderful littering along the course. Plastic bottles, paper cups, race food wrappers, and random things left by spectators. It is not a pretty sight. How can one make running races more environmentally friendly?
Über Moms Book Club April 2021
A year of book club! This month, the stalwarts of the group met to discuss Bill Gates’s latest book, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster. We were also lucky enough to have our very own Environmental Policy expert on hand to guide us through the topics and add her own insight to the subject. Thank you, Theresa!
A Beginner's Guide to Making the Switch to Natural and Organic Products
The use of natural and organic products is a hot topic these days.
As people become more and more aware of what they’re putting into their bodies, they’re also becoming aware of what they’re putting ON their bodies. What you put ON your body gets absorbed INTO your body. So it makes sense to be mindful of the skincare and makeup products you’re using on your body and face, as well as household products that you use that come in contact with your skin.
Über Moms Environmental Art Awareness Contest
The Contest and Purpose:
Young artists between the ages of 3-14 years old, will create their own masterpiece either in 2-D, 3-D or a performance work of art, that illustrates the message of the theme: ‘EARTH IS CALLING’.
“Our Earth is alive. Its' heart ticks, its soul cries. In this environmental art competition, young artists are asked to be the ‘voice' for our earth. As the earth has none that we can hear, we would like to see it through art. Young artists can express what the earth is feeling and thinking through their environmental art masterpiece entry.”
Managing Parental Stress During the Covid-19 Pandemic
In a pandemic, fears are normal. Being stressed is now our baseline; we’ve learned to live with it.
But when the stress becomes chronic, it’s important to act before parental burnout can strike. Über Mom Jennelle Liljestrand has put together an amazing resource on how to fight burnout by focusing on your relationship and engaging in important self-care practices such as mindfulness.
My Strengths are my Limits: A Note from the Editor
What About that Warm-up? Do I Really Have to?
Do you think the pre-run warm-up is a bit of a time-waster, and running slow for the first kilometer is as far as you’ll ever go? I sometimes feel like that, too, but I also feel like maybe I should, especially for the sake of preventing injury. I did some research into this and the outcome may surprise you!

The Moms Have It-NAY: A Note from the Editor
The moms of the blogosphere have spoken. They’re burned out. Each and every one of them is doneso. We can’t take it anymore, they type as they angrily thrust at the keys of their laptops whilst breastfeeding, preparing a meal, and meeting a deadline, melodiously drowned out by the cries of sticky-fingered toddlers, over-stimulated school-aged children, or ravenous teens.
Über Moms Book Club February 2021
As I sit down to start writing this, it is snowing outside, the air temperature is -11℃, and the idea of going back to bed and curling up with a good book is a very tempting one... But which book? In honesty, I have three on the go, and I am not flying through any of them, but each is interesting enough that I keep returning to it. But they will wait till later. Now, to bring you all up to date with the Book Club. We met on Thursday, 11th February, and I think it was enjoyed by all. We have also selected our next book club read.

Live Fish Can Swim Against the Current: A Note from the Editor
Only Dead Fish Go with the Flow read the text in bold on a tote bag. Oh, this will do! I grabbed four bags and a few cards and headed for the till. “That’ll be (insert some overpriced Euro equivalency),” says the clerk. I’m all ready for the party. My tri-sisters, as we like to call each other, have an annual “Swine” together. We coined the term and use it to describe coming together for a swim and a “whine.”
Base Phase Training – Is it for me?
Base phase training (BPT) is a type of training that precedes the speed and competition phases for elite runners and endurance athletes. Its aim is to build endurance and strength as a solid foundation for more spirited endeavors later in the running year. And yes, it can benefit you, too, and winter is a great time for it!
Über Moms Book Club January 2021
This month, Über Moms is concentrating on priorities. I would always encourage you, if you don’t already, to prioritise a little of your hard-won “you” time for reading or listening to books. And obviously, as the chair of the Book Club, I would encourage you to help select, read, and join us to discuss our Book Club choice.
