Über Moms Book Club January 2021

By Kathy Bryan

Firstly, before it is too far into 2021 and it becomes a little silly to say, let me wish you all a Happy New Year and all the very best for the year ahead!

This month, Über Moms is concentrating on priorities. I would always encourage you, if you don’t already, to prioritise a little of your hard-won “you” time for reading or listening to books. And obviously, as the chair of the Book Club, I would encourage you to help select, read, and join us to discuss our Book Club choice.

The Book Club is one of the benefits of being an Über Mom, and in the past few months, we have read a range of books. This month, we will be meeting to look back over our first ten months together and look forward to the books we may read in the next year. Do you have any suggestions for genres or authors? What type of book would make you think, “I am going to prioritise some of my “me” time and read this book”? We would really like to hear from you; let us know! By way of a recap, here are the books we have already read.

  • Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owen

  • Lovie - Lisa Yarger

  • The Beekeeper of Aleppo - Christy Lefteri

  • White Fragility - Robin DiAngelo

  • Long Petal of the Sea - Isabel Allende

  • Burnt Sugar - Avni Doshi

  • There are no grown-ups - Pamela Druckerman

  • I am Malala - Malala Yousafzai

  • Sugar - Bernice L McFadden

We are currently reading “Villette” by Charlotte Bronte.

Kathy Bryan

Kathy Bryan is a stay at home mum with 15 years experience of raising three independent, loving, fun-filled, maddening children. Prior to moving to a village south of Munich, she lived with her family in the middle of England. Being a firm believer that being a stay at home mum does not mean you have to forget who you are, she was always busy in the village, both as a Governor at the school and helping organise village fetes amongst other things. Since arriving in Germany and getting settled here Kathy joined Über Moms and is an active member of the Runners Group and recently started Über Moms very own book club. When not chasing children to do homework or running the highways and byways around her village Kathy can be found sewing patchwork and working out ways to hide “another quilt” in the house.
