Earlier this year, I had the honor of winning the Biggest Loser prize in the annual Über Moms Challenge. I’d been trying to lose the weight I’d gained between my pregnancies, and this was just the boost I needed to make a good start.
Like many of us, I knew how to lose weight, but something was holding me back from actually doing it. For me, it was needing a little push and some support along the way. And to be honest, a little friendly competition really helped!
Though we all had different goals, having a group of ladies who were all trying together to stick to nutritional and fitness plans was the biggest help for me. It helped me to be accountable to someone other than just me and to write down everything I consumed. That was my key to making good choices… knowing I’d see bad choices in writing!
I’m proud to say I lost 8kg during the 90 Day Challenge. I still have a long way to go to meet my long term goals, but I feel great with this start. The high point was managing a two week holiday in Singapore and Malaysia with foodie friends without gaining any weight – and without feeling deprived. I don’t think I would have had the strength to do that without having the Challenge and teammates there for me.
Not only did we make good progress toward our individual fitness goals, I think we all learned a lot from each other and about each other during those weeks. And through sharing and analyzing what was behind our own habits, we learned a lot about ourselves and how we can reinforce good habits and break unhealthy ones. I haven’t had the free time I’d hoped to devote to cooking and exercise this year, so I’m looking forward to next year’s Challenge with another group of amazing women!
