It’s a brand new month and a brand new year. So it’s a great time for a fresh start. And maybe you’re thinking this is also a great time for a fresh new look. But perhaps you’re unsure where to start. A new look can be as simple or dramatic as you want it to be. Either way, here a few ideas to get you started.
Do you do the same thing with your hair every day? For example, perhaps you just wear it down all the time. Or you just tie it up in a ponytail. Here are 3 styles you can try. They’re really simple to do and they literally only take a couple of minutes to do. Yet they’ll look absolutely fabulous and will really shake things up.
The Twisted Ponytail
There’s more than one way to wear a ponytail. And it does not have to look boring at all. In fact, far from it. One of my favourite ways to spruce up the good old ponytail is by using this very quick and simple technique.
How to do:
- Secure your ponytail in place with an elastic band.
- Now make a hole in the middle of your ponytail, just above the elastic band.
- Next take your ponytail and push it through this hole.
- Tip: To make it a little easier to pull your hair through the hole, try twisting your ponytail, then pulling it through.
- Then push your hair through the hole and pull it out from the other side. And that’s it. This will give your ponytail a lovely twisted look which will look anything but boring.
It literally takes seconds to do this style and it’s so easy to do.
Tip: This style looks particularly well if you make a low ponytail. You could also use this same technique to make a half up-half down hairstyle. Or you could also try rolling up your hair to make a bun.
The Braided Bun
Another of my favourites is the super quick and easy Braided Bun. You don’t need to know how to do particularly fancy braids. The normal 3 strand braid works perfectly for this style and is really easy to do.
How to do:
- Again, make a ponytail and secure with an elastic band.
- Next, make a normal 3-Strand braid.
- Once you’ve braided your hair, place another elastic band in your hair to keep your braid in place.
- Now wrap the braid around itself, to make a bun.
- Secure the hair in place with a couple of bobby pins.
Tip: You can make the bun look a little thicker by tugging slightly on some sections.
The Double/Triple Braided Bun
This one is gorgeous for something a little bit more special. It actually looks so much more complicated than it is. But trust me, it’s so easy to do. And it will look like you spent ages doing your hair when in reality it only took you 5 minutes. But no one needs to know that, right? 🙂
How to do:
- Depending on how thick your hair is, divide your hair into 2 or 3 sections.
- Now take one of the sections and make a regular 3-strand braid.
- Secure the braid with an elastic band.
- Do the exact same for the other 2 sections of hair.
- Now you’re literally going to twist the braids over each other in any way that you like. °For example, if you made 3 braids, take the braid from the right-hand side and place it across the back of your head, over the middle braid. Then pin it in place with a bobby pin.
- Now take the middle braid from the left-hand side and do the same thing as above and do the same with the middle braid too.
The great thing about this style is that there is no right or wrong way to do this. You can twist the braids in any way that you like. And this doesn’t have to be neat and tidy either. In fact, the messier the better. But you can decide that for yourself. It’s also super easy to accessorise this hairstyle with flowers if you’re going to a wedding or a special event.
A NEW HAIRSTYLE
Or perhaps you’ve had the same hairstyle for years and you’re looking for more of a dramatic change. A trip to your hairdresser is a great way to do this. Here are a few ideas for you:
Now I know some people are little scared by hair colour. I used to be too. Until I realised how amazing it made me look and feel. A touch of colour in your hair is such a great way brighten up your complexion in an instant. Well okay, maybe a 2-hour session at the hair salon isn’t an instant. But you get what I mean. 🙂 It can take you from looking pale and tired to refreshed and radiant. And even better, it can make you look younger too. You don’t have to go for a dramatic change. For example, you could just add a few subtle highlights throughout your hair. And if you have fine hair, this can be a great way to make it look thicker. Or if you’ve got darker hair that’s looking a little faded, a beautiful colour similar to your natural hair tone will give it an instant boost, making it look healthy and shiny.
Another simple way to change your look is to get bangs. You can go for full bangs if you like. Or if you’re not sure if this will suit you, you could ease yourself in and go side bangs. That way, if you don’t like them, they’ll easily blend into your hair or you can always pin them back until they fully grow out.
A New Hairstyle
Maybe you’ve had the exact same hairstyle for years and you’d love a something new in 2017. Again, this can be as dramatic or subtle as you like. For example, perhaps you have long hair and you’d love something a bit different. But you’d still like to keep the length in your hair. So why not try adding a few layers at the front of your hair? This way, you’ll still keep the length in your hair, but the layers will add a beautiful dimension and frame your face beautifully.
Or another option is to go for a long bob style. Again, you’re still keeping some length in your hair. And you can easily grow your hair again. Plus, this is also a great way of keeping your hair in a healthy condition.
Or if you really want a complete change, just go for it. Like I said, you can always grow your hair again. And who knows, maybe you’ll love your new hairstyle even more than your old one. Just like a fresh hair colour, a new hairstyle will also instantly brighten up your face and it too can make you look years younger.
If you see a hairstyle or colour you like, save it, and be sure to bring a picture of it with you when you make your hair appointment. Your hairstylist will be able to advise you if this style or colour would suit you. And if not, they’ll advise you what would suit you best. Don’t be afraid to ask their opinion. Pinterest, blogs and magazines are all great sources of inspiration.
Makeup is such a quick and easy way to enhance your natural beauty on a daily basis. Applying even a little makeup will make you look and FEEL instantly refreshed and awake in seconds. Whether you’re a seasoned makeup wearer or you’ve never worn makeup at all, I’ve got some great ideas for you how you can use makeup for a fresh new look in 2017.
For the complete Makeup Beginner
Don’t wear makeup? Let me first dispel a few myths about makeup for you.
- You do NOT need a lot of time every day to apply makeup.
- You do NOT need a lot of products to do a gorgeous, natural look.
- The only thing Makeup changes dramatically is your self-confidence.
Makeup still makes you look like you, only even more beautiful. Because it enhances your already naturally beautiful features even further. And you only need a couple of products and a few minutes to enhance your natural beauty with makeup.
My advice is to try not to overwhelm yourself. Start off with only a few basic products and a few basic techniques and gradually introduce more products into your routine as you become more confident at applying your makeup. Even just applying a little mascara and concealer are instantly going to make you look and feel more awake. This blog post is a great place to help you get started as it explains the only basic products that you really need to get started.
Bored of the same makeup routine?
Have you been using the same shades of eyeshadow for years? Always the same shades of brown? Or maybe you only ever choose a nude lipstick or lipgloss and you’d love to try a brighter shade of lipstick. Or even a red? This is a great time of year to start introducing some new makeup products into your routine.
For example, you could introduce a new eyeshadow shade into your routine. Spring is coming and it’s a great time to start using a bit more colour. Pinks and lilacs are always great shades that you can subtly add into your eye makeup routine. Use them all over the eyelid for a gorgeous daytime look. Or apply a little bit on the lower lashline for a subtle pop of colour.
This is also a great time of year for lip colours, as the brighter Spring shades are coming. Opt for a shade or two darker than your usual lip colour to ease yourself into wearing brighter shades.
How old is your makeup?
Did you know that, just like foods, makeup and beauty products also have expiry dates? For example, once you’ve opened a tube of mascara, it should be thrown out after 3 months. Regardless of whether or not you’ve used it! Think about it. We’re putting these products on our skin. And what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies. So be sure to only use makeup products that are still in date.
If you’ve got any products that are older than 2 years old, throw them out. And use this as an excuse to treat yourself to some new products.
Just like your hair and makeup, perhaps you’ve been wearing the same style of clothes for many years and you’d love to try something new. For example, maybe jeans are always your go-to item of clothing. Now, jeans are great and they can be so comfy. But you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for style. You can have both. So if you really don’t want to part with wearing jeans, you could pair your favourite pair with a gorgeous blouse or top in a shade that really flatters your complexion.
If you’ve got a coffee date with some friends or you want to look stylish, yet comfortable at work, you could also pair these with a stylish blazer. This looks professional for the office, yet it’s also casual enough to wear for a coffee date.
Or maybe you’re sick of wearing jeans and you’d love to start wearing skirts and dresses. So why not do it? Make a pact with yourself that you’re going to wear a dress or skirt at least once per week. Choose a particular day if you want to. You could pair a gorgeous wool skirt with one of your favourite tops, a pair of thick, black tights and a pair of Winter boots. Again, this is such a stylish look, yet you’ll still feel totally comfortable.
And if you really want to treat yourself (and why shouldn’t you), you could seek the help of a professional who will be able to advise you in a private setting of the types of styles, shades, and products that are perfect for you.
I really hope that you liked these tips. As you can see, it’s really easy to introduce small little steps into your daily routine to spruce things up and give yourself a new look. I’d love to hear which step or steps, you’re going to take in the comments. And I’d also love to see a photo of your new look too.
