Winter Essential Oils: Happiness is Handmade

By Julie Leonard

Winter is a difficult time for many of us health wise with so many colds and viruses around. My little one just started childcare this winter and has had bug after bug which invariably we also catch.

So I have been burning Lemon Essential Oil that clears and disinfects the air and gives a clean, fresh scent. I also use lots of my two trusty winter essential oils, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree. These two are fantastic for treating colds, coughs, infections and viruses and are both inexpensive to buy.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)

Properties: analgesic, antineuralgic, anti-rheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, balsamic, cicatrisant, depurative, diuretic, expectorant, febrifugal, stimulant.

Good for: Hayfever, colds and flu, headaches, sinusitis, neuralgia, poor circulation, wounds, insect bites and stings.

Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)

Properties: antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antiviral, fungicidal, immunostimulant.

Good for: Acne and spots, cold sores, burns, wounds, insect bites and stings, respiratory ailments, colds and flu, thrush and cystitis.

(Always look for the latin name when buying essential oils and it should also say 100% pure essential oil on the bottle)

These oils can be used in oil burners, in the bath, as an inhalation or blended with a carrier oil to be applied on my skin like my Sinusitis Oil http://www.potentiacentre.com/store/p11/Sinsutis_oil.html
