Summer activities in the city – for free!

By Georgia Chapman
Summer is finally upon us, and with the warmer weather it is also a perfect time to discover different parts of the city. Munich has a vast array of events and activities for children during the summer.

It is one of the most kid-friendly cities I know – where else can you take your toddler to a restaurant where they can bond with a dog under the table? The city organises free family play on Sundays in local parks and there are countless playgrounds with water features to keep your little ones cool on hot summer days.

Below are some free activities you can take your little munchkins to over the coming weeks.

1. Walderlebnispfad Grünwald

http://www.alf-eb.bayern.de/forstwirtschaft/wald/083135/index.php

Open all year round, this trail through a wood takes approximately two hours. There are varying stations along the way, where kids can experience and learn new things, including a barefoot path and a giant wooden xylophone.

2. English story time at the library – Schwabing

Good for rainy days.
From 4 years upwards (but we are planning to sneak little C in sooner if possible), American Sue Polzer reads picture books in English. Every two weeks, although check the website to make sure.

Clementine’s top tip: Delhi Haat (near the Andechser Tent) has live Indian music and dancing at weekends from 3pm. Sit on the bean bags and let your little ones dance on the dance floor whilst enjoying great vegan Indian food and Kingfisher beer or a mango lassi.
